Dear Redding Families,

This is Superintendent Adams.

The Redding School District Board of Trustees held a special board meeting tonight to consider any changes to our opening plans for the 2020-2021 school year.  The Redding School District has offered three programs to its families to consider and have enrolled those families in their program of choice. For the families who chose Distance Learning and/or College Prep Homeschool there is no change to the program that your child is enrolled in.  Again, I want to emphasize that there has been no change to the Distance Learning and College/Prep programs.  What the board was considering is if a change was warranted for the In-Person schooling option based on changing local conditions.   The school board members heard from a great deal of parents, staff, community members, and students about the In-Person opening plan.    They held a robust conversation and showed great leadership in their questioning, comments, and final decision.  In the end, due to my recommendation, and the changing conditions in our community our school district board voted to open in Phase 2, which is the blended learning model.

This means that we will have 50% of our students on campus, which will allow us to better socially distance and have smaller class sizes.  State guidelines require that students have daily contact with their teachers; either by physically attending school on assigned days or participating through distance learning on the offsite days when they are not at school.   What it will mean to you and your child is that they will be on campus two days each week and will be in a Distance Learning Model three days each week.  Please be looking for a message from your school that will identify your child’s schedule as it relates to The Hybrid model.  I would also ask you to look for the meal delivery schedule and options.  Please be assured that this wasn’t an easy decision for your board or myself.  I know that the excellent teachers and site staff will work with our families as we make this adjustment.

Thank you,

Rob Adams

Superintendent
